The Sunflower League showcased their talents in girls tennis at the KSHSAA Class 6A State Tournament on Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th. There were five Sunflower League member schools that qualified athletes including: Lawrence Free State, Olathe Northwest, Olathe West, Shawnee Mission East, and Shawnee Mission South.

The Shawnee Mission East Lancers claimed the 2022 State Championship, Olathe Northwest finished in 3rd place, and Lawrence Free State finished in 4th place. That’s three Sunflower League schools finishing in the top 5 at state!

2022 KSHSAA Class 6A Girls Tennis 3rd Place – Olathe Northwest High School

In singles action VanPelt of Lawrence Free State was the State Champion and in doubles action Langford and Stechschulte were the State Champions. That’s the Sunflower League claiming all three State Championships at the 2022 KSHSAA Class 6A State Girls Tennis Tournament!

2022 KSHSAA Class 6A State Champions in Doubles – Stechschulte and Langford, Shawnee Mission East. This also marks the 4th consecutive year that Langford and Stechschulte have won the state championship in doubles. This is first time in KSHSAA history that a doubles team has earned this accomplishment!

Congratulations to the Sunflower League Girls Tennis athletes and teams for their phenomenal showing at this year’s State Girls Tennis Tournament!
