The Sunflower League schools recently had seven member schools with athletes competing in the KSHSAA Class 6A State Boys Golf Tournament in Newton. The tournament was held at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course. Shawnee Mission East, Olathe West, Olathe Northwest, and Olathe South, Olathe East, Mill Valley, Shawnee Mission South all represented the Sunflower League. The State Tournament is a two day tournament with 18 holes completed each day. The Shawnee Mission East Lancers claimed the 2023 State Championship in a tiebreaker over Olathe West. Both teams finished with a team total of 575 and had to go to the 5th best golfer to break the tie. The Sunflower League claimed two of three state team trophies this year!

Congratulations to the Shawnee Mission East Lancers on their 2023 KSHSAA Class 6A State Boys Golf Championship. This marks the 15th time the Lancers have earned a State Boys Golf title with their most recent being in 2019.

Thomas Gogel, a SME Senior, earned the individual championship after winning a playoff hole over Chance Rinkol, a Junior from Blue Valley. Both golfers finished their 36 holes with a score of 138 (-6). The playoff was held on the par 5 hole 10 where Gogel shot a par and Rinol shot a bogey.
